Potty Training? Nah! No need!

About a week ago, you indicated that you didn't want to wear your diapers. Ah Mah said ok, and told you to tell her, if you wanted to shee-shee or poo-poo so she can bring you to the toilet. After a couple of days with some minor accidents, you're now in perfect control! There are no more strange puddles to be found in the house for the last couple of days. Hurray!

Now, you only need diapers when you go to sleep or when we bring you out. You're so good at it that yesterday, when you came out of the toilet and announced to everyone that you had just 'shee-sheed' once again in the toilet, nobody bothered to cheer, clap and dance or give you big hugs and kisses and loads of praise. Hahahah. It's terrible. We adults are really a hard lot to satisfy.

Am really proud of you. You just decided when you didn't want diapers all by yourself. No training required!

*MUAK!*

Train Birthday Cake

This is a very lazy way of making a 3D train cake. Bought 3 Sara Lee pound cakes and a tub of Betty Crocker ready made chocolate frostings. Started cutting and shaping the pound cakes into a train and slapped a layer of frostings all over it. Was not very good with the frostings. The cake had a lot of details that were lost after the chocolate went over it. Overall, it was still very impressive to you and you loved it! Kept checking to see if it was safe on the front seat while on the way to Spizza for dinner. The eyes and nose, made with mini oreos and smarties were happily eaten up by the birthday boy...(",)

3 nights, 19 ventolin nebulizer +3 chest physiotherapy sessions & $2,293.36 later, you are back home and on your feet.

Doctor says you had a severe asthmatic attack. Not much more information is given. We ask how do we prevent you from getting another? The answer is, we have to see if you have any future attacks in order to predict the pattern or cause. Wha piang. No way my little old man!

I bought a book called 'What your doctors may not tell you about children's allergies and asthma - simple steps to help stop attacks and improve your child's health'

On the home front, we got plenty of advice. Eat crocodile meat! Don't eat anything cold, no ice-creams, any cold drinks with ice, even fresh milk from the refrigerator!. No oranges, limes, bananas or pomelo. No swimming in the mornings and must make sure you are chest deep in water if you do go in the afternoons. No catching chills, meaning no bathing with cold water, make sure you are not in sweaty clothes when there's wind, no cottony pillows, bolsters or comforters in the bedroom. Oh, 1 tsp of bird's nest daily and go see a chinese physician for more advice and nourishing concoctions like chinese pear soup with "chuan pei" and lean meat.

We're going to do EVERYTHING we have to. It's really not much fun seeing a little boy so exhausted by wheezing, he falls asleep sitting up, on the couch.

I quite enjoy bringing you out alone nowadays.

You seated safely in the car seat and me driving. For some reason, when otherwise you would have screamed, kicked and cried murder, you don't protest being buckled down when it's only just you and me in the car.

It's usually a very short drive, to somewhere with lots of space near our house.

Last friday evening, it was to the club. We had some sort of a conversation on the way there and back and you enjoyed the jaunt on the putting green, wedging your head between 2 chairs and watching the big guys swing their clubs in the driving range and playing catch with a seven year old boy in the indoor playgound.

Egg Prata King

Yippee! Got this Flickr direct photo upload working again on the new phone.

Went for your last compulsory jab yesterday. Most kids complete the immunisation programme by 19 months. Yours kept being delayed by your recent bout of illnesses.

Mommy received a letter from the Ministry of Health (MOH) a couple of weeks back. Somehow, they know that you have not had all your jabs and I got a letter from them reminding me about it. Do you know that at you can't enroll into primary 1 if you don't have a certificate from the doctor saying that you have had all the jabs? Wha piang!

Anyway, you weren't too happy when your diaper was removed. You saw the needle and went "ouch! ouch!! OUCH!!!" before it even got anywhere close to target.

We had to reward your bravery later with an egg prata but you were still clearly, grouchy.

2 dead wasps in the backyard

There were 2 dead wasps in the car porch and 2 more in the backyard last Thursday. Don't know where they came from. Ah Marh told me you saw the ones in the backyard and dragged Ah Gong there to ask him "What is this?". He told you they were "bees".

Later that evening, when I came home, we went to examine the 2 'bees' in the backyard once more. You peered at them and promptly told me they were "sleeping". I told you they were dead but you insisted they were not, by saying, "No, Sleeping!" I didn't argue.

On Friday, I was having lunch with a colleague who recently became a 1st time mom. She was asking me if I was more careful about taking care of myself after having a kid and told me she can't even cross the road now without being extra cautious. I gave it some thought and told her that having a kid gives you a keener sense of mortality (the fear of impermanence).

And on Saturday, during my yoga class, the instructor, an ex-boss, a friend, told us about her recent trip to India for her 2nd level meditation course - a rebirthing process to purify the energies of her 7 chakras. She said that she discovered one very important thing during this trip and she summarized it as "Life is a joke!"

So my dear boy, why bother with life if at the end of the day, you end up sleeping forever, fear the end even while still alive or believe that it is all a joke?

I don't have the answers, although I believe the study of Buddhism will help shed some light.

Mymmy: Yang Yang, what is this?

YY: What is this? I don't know.

Papa: eH? You know how to use 'I don't know' already arh?
Mummy: Who taught him that?
Papa: I don't know.

Hmmm.......

Close Window

MM: Did you both sleep well last night?
PP: Yes, sleep well. He wake up once to ask me to "close window", then went back to sleep.
MM: Why did he ask you to close the windows?
PP: Don't know. He sleep disorder one! Even want to be very busy while he is sleeping. Maybe next time will wake up to run around, then go back to sleep.

Lost in translation

What you can do if you have some boxes on a Friday night

Drag the boxes around...
Sit inside one of them and figure out how retractable car keys work...
Smile for the camera when your Mummy asks you to.
2 reasons why you should oblige. One, it makes your mummies really happy but more importantly, it keeps them from trying to get you out of the box.

At least for a while. Unless they offer you cherries like mine did. They are really good so you should get out of the box to eat them. I came out for those yummy black cherries myself! My Mummy watches while I pull off the stalks, bite them and dig or spit out the seeds. It amuses her. I don't really know why.

When the cherries ran out, go back into the box! You never know if you'd be offered chocolates later. My Mummy insists on keeping my toys inside these boxes. It really is more fun to have them strewn all over the house. You never know when you need them.
Sigh, I have to take the blocks she's already put inside out again. Some of them are poking into my diaper anyways and hey, while I'm at it, I might as well stack them up and build something!

Ohmpah Hoo Har Hood

I haven't found out what "Hoo-Har-Hood" means but the sound of it seems to delight you so much so you repeat it nonstop to yourself and demand that I do too.

"Ohmpah", the other word you made up, means kissing with the mouth open and leaving very, very, very wet patches behind.

Show-off

SUNDAY
Mummy, "BY, how old are you?"
....*silence*
Mummy, "BY, how old are you? BY say...I am 2 years old."
I figured that by the time you learn this, you'd be 2 years old anyway.
BY, "twenty months!"
Mummy, " HUH??? WHAT DID YOU SAY???"
BY, "twenty months old!"
A bit shocked. Who taught you that?
Mummy, " BY, you are twenty-two months old now. How old are you now?"
BY, "twenty-two months!"

YESTERDAY
Mummy, "BY, tell Dr. Ang how old are you?"
*silence*
.....after 2 minutes...."twenty-two months"
Dr. Ang, "Wah, so clever!"
YEAH!!! MY SON VERY CLEVER LEH! HAHHAHAA

THIS MORNING
Mummy, "BY, do you want to eat some bread?"
BY, "BUTTER!"
Mummy, "No, no butter"
BY, "KAYA???"
Wha piang!

BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE
Mummy, "Bye bye BY!"
BY, lifting both hands up, "Hug!"
Mummy HUG, Mummy KISS.
BY, running to Papa, "Hug!"
Papa HUG, Papa OOMPAH.
.....and before we drove the car out, BY calls out, "駕車小 心!"
Aiyoh! Heart melts.....

Nebulizer / Bronchodilator

Had to convince you that you've done this before. Think you are getting sick of us sticking it in front of your face 3 times a day. Showed you a photo of a 'baby BY' using the nebulizer and you calmed down.
